🧭 What is a coach?️ In a coaching session, a coach's job is to help clients explore reality and gain new perspectives. Coach will be a "mirror" to be able to understand the inner thoughts of whatever is being experienced. A coach will challenge your understanding & cause-and-effect. A coach will also act as your accountability partner to reach your goals.
🧭 How is it different from a trainer? Trainers have expertise in certain fields and there is a teaching and learning system with a predetermined curriculum. As for a coach, the topic is determined by the client, because the nature of coaching is personalized, where the client better understands the current conditions, so they can discuss more relevant things.
🧭 How is it different from a psychologist? Psychologists will focus more on solving problems in the past that affect the present, while coaches will focus more on the present and future.
🧭 How is it different from a consultant? A consultant works by accepting an issue as an input to his work, a solution can be given as an output. A coach will work as a partner in thinking his client at the same time. The output or solution is not the main result, but the process of thinking, gaining awareness, and changing perspectives will be obtained more from the coaching session.
Counterintuitively, a coaching session is energy draining, not because of negativity, but because of the excitement and the challenge that a coach provides. That said, an effective coaching session lasts around 45~60 minutes.
